Description A male Magicicada cassini pees as he takes off in flight. This is not urinating; after feeding on sugar-rich sap from a tree's phloem ducts, he excretes the excess as honeydew, aka “cicada rain”. The video and audio are slowed down by a factor of 16, so the high-pitched buzz he emits during take-off sounds much more drawn-out; the rumble heard as a prelude to his rain song is background wind noise.
